What are central features of organic farming?
Dry farming with no use of irrigation; minimal intervention in the vinification and aging; wild native yeast in fermentation; minimal filtering/fining; the least addition of SO2 (sulfites); no chemical additives for aroma, color, flavor or texture enhancement; no GMOs
Why is organic wine better for health?
Yes! Because an organic wine contains higher levels of vitamin C, essential minerals and cancer-fighting antioxidants.
Does organic wine contain sulfites?
This is a complex question with a simple answer, yes. All wine naturally contains sulfites, they are inherent in the wine-making process. A few of the early "organic" wine producers attempted to make wine excluding the sulfites. Generally, wine drinkers found these wines disappointing and lacking in flavor and body. What we believe in is natural biodynamic production. The natural sulfites help combat the oxygen exposed to the wine during the bottling process and help it age. We adamantly disagree with the practice of adding additional sulfites or other non-natural substances to "engineer" the wine during production.
Does ZIOBAFFA packaging is 100% sustainable?
Yes! ZIOBAFFA bottles utilize recycled glass in their creation.100% of the paper we use for our label is FSC (The Forest Stewardship Council) certified and is produced from raw material obtained through sustainable farming practices. The labels are printed with non-toxic ink and affixed using bio-friendly, non-toxic glue. The revolutionary new HELIX™ cork closure on our Toscana and Pinot Grigio wines embraces technology to create a bio-friendly re-usable seal. Moreover, cork production preserves bio-diversity and is generally regarded as a highly sustainable crop due to the fact that the entire cork tree is not harvested; merely its bark. The tree continues to live and grow. The sustainability of production and the easy recycling of cork products and by-products are two of its most distinctive aspects.
